Variability in the Annual Cycle of Daily Antarctic Sea Ice Extent

Abstract

Daily Antarctic sea-ice extent exhibits pronounced seasonality that is modulated by synoptic forcing and longer-term climate variability. This talk presents new analyses of the annual cycle using satellite data, reanalyses, and coupled climate-model output, highlighting factors that control interannual amplitude and phase shifts. We discuss implications for atmosphere-ocean coupling and emerging predictability horizons.
