Activities

I am active in national and international scientific research communities. I am one of two co-Chairs of ASPeCt (Antarctic Sea ice Processes and Climate), an expert international group on multidisciplinary Antarctic sea ice zone research within the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR) Physical Sciences program. It is also affiliated with the Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). ASPeCt has the key objective of improving our understanding of the Antarctic sea ice zone through focused and ongoing field programs, remote sensing, and numerical modeling.

I was until 2023, co-Chair of the Polar Climate Predictability Initiative (PCPI), which is an initiative of the WCRP’s Core projects CliC and APARC (Atmospheric Processes And their Role in Climate). Part of my role in these organizations is to promote research on Antarctic sea ice observations and modeling. To that end, I have been a scientific organizer of numerous international workshops, the most recent of these being the CLIVAR Workshop on Polar Amplification, Boulder, Colorado, January 2024.
