I am a climatologist with research interests in the climate dynamics of the southern high latitudes. The major scientific goal of my research is that of defining and understanding the interaction between Antarctic sea ice and the large-scale Southern Hemisphere circulation at the seasonal, interannual, and decadal timescales. Such understanding facilitates the prediction of Antarctic climate at these timescales. I use large climate databases, sophisticated statistical analyses, and theoretical climate models to determine and understand the relationships between Antarctic sea ice and the atmospheric circulation.
